Here Sydney is seen putting the back side of her hair in the water.
Since the first day at the swimming pool it took her an entire hour to
progress to the second step (which is aproximately 6" deep), we were
amazed to see her up to her kneck in water, putting her head in.
The secret, ten cent measuring cups bought at a garage sale down the
street. Because I'm a garage sale addict, I had to squeeze over to a
couple while Grandma and Grandpa went to change clothes. We bought
the measuring cups and took them to the pool. I let Sydney wash my
hair as pay back for all the times she's had to take a bath. Then I
started sprinkling water on her, and pretty soon, wah-la. Head in.
It probably won't happen again till next trip down so I thought I
better document it. :-)
Way to go Sydney, we are proud of you.

Grandma Sheila plays Play-Dough with the kids.

I've never been offered so many delicious looking cookies in my life.
Together they make some mean cookies.

Grandpa Todd and Dayton playing Foosball

Grandpa said he used to play this all the time growing up. He's
teaching Dayton the ropes.

We should have hand warmer dispensers in Alaska.

Chasing Javalinas

A large member of the rodent family, the Javalina (sp?), pronounced
'hav-uh-leena', are found in dessert climates roaming wild. A small
hurd of them wandered onto the ranch during the wedding reception. I
thought they were pets and belonged on the ranch. Dayton thought
something similar and tried chasing them several times. When Dave
told me he heard they were dangerous I quickly turned around to get
Dayton and he was off chasing them again amidst the cactus. Clips
from the movie Old Yeller were floodin my mind where Old Yeller gets
attacked and chwed up by the Javalinas. I don't consider myself a
paranoid parent but this experience left me quivering. It gets
worse. At one point during the reception while the little kids were
running amuck, I realized Dayton was missing. We looked all over.
Earlier we had watched the pig-like animals wander over to the dusty
ranch parking lot. I thought to look there and finally found him
alone, in the parking lot looking for the Javalinas in the bushes. I
was so worried. I think we were really lucky that night.
This of course is a cast iron mold or something. Much less terrifying
for a photo, and much cuter too.

Outdoor Play Land

We've had a lot of firsts on this trip. Seeing and playing at an
outdoor Burger King Playland is one of them. Good Times! (Notice the
palm trees in the back). Ah, sunshine and warmth. I'm ready to move
in with Grandma and Grandpa.

Lizards

This is also for my dad. I remember going on vacation to southern
Utah with my parents and brothers during college. We found a little
swimming hole where tiny pink frogs would sit on the rocks to
sunbathe. My dad would go catch 'em to show my mom. It was so cute.
It was like they were school kids.
On this trip, we saw lizards all over. Every time I saw one I thought
of my dad. :-). This is Jackson country.

Dessert Cactus

This photo was taken for my dad, Harold Jackson, who was raised in the
dessert and said "The dessert has it's own beauty". I agree. :-).
The cactus are beautiful.

This one's for Grandma Bobbie

It was pouring rain and we couldn't stop to pose so I know it's
blurry, but this was the first time I had seen an orange tree and
grapefruit tree. The oranges were good and we got a grapefruit at
church from someone who's tree was loaded. :-). How COOL!

Wedding Luncheon

Even mom fell in love with this dog at the gift opening luncheon for
the bride and groom. Dayton reminds me of Maverick in that he has no
fear of dogs.

More pool time

This is at the community pool where Grandma and Grandpa Davis live.
It's free for reidents and guests. It's only 2 ft deep and has
turtles on the bottom. Fun! Fun! Fun!

Pool time with Uncle Spencer

The Boys

This is what you get when you ask little boys to smile. :-). They are
cousins ages 3, 4, and 5. Maverick, who's 6, is on his way. They are
sitting on grandpas hot tub. Mums the word.

Story time with cousins in Tuscon

Dave's brother Tim is getting married tomorrow which has brought the
Edwards and Davis family to Tuscon. I'm guessing Mikayla's going to
be a teacher someday. I keep hearing things like, "What does a bird
sound like?" then "Good Job".
Lot's of giggles, laughs, and screams of excitement.

Dayton delivering the paper

Throwing the paper!

The power of WORKING for money!!!

Recently the Newspaper added an extra coupon paper to be delivered to
almost 300 additional people each week. Luckely it can be done during
the day over a span of 3 days. So, the kids and I decided to take it
on. I'm sure passerbys thought I was being abusive to my children
having them run the paper to the door, but it turned out that they
LOVED it, especially when I told them they could earn money to go to
Chuck-E-Cheese. While we were just starting to roll the papers and
bag them together, Sydney said, 'I'm so tired, but I really want to go
to Chuck-E-Cheese'. Is there a way to get this idea across to Obama
that people feel good working hard for something they want. :-). I've
never seen Sydney so determined to stay focused for so long, and be so
driven. After taking a break at home, she couldn't wait to get back
to the route.

Special Delivery

Sydney and Dad headed out to do the paper route.

Sharing treats

Sydney loves to go with her Daddy to do the paper route. This
particular morning they stopped at a gas station and got a treat.
Sydney wanted to save some for both Dayton and mom. Since this is a
little out of character for her, it made it even more special.

I have added some cute pics of Sydney on my blog, you can get to it here.

It has been so hard for me lately to have any free time at all, so this was refreshing to finally get some photos of my family at home. Enjoy- Dave

Family Photos

Love at First site!

Today, while at McDonalds, this little girl (on the right) walked
right up to Dayton, open armed, silently asking for a hug. When
Dayton turned around to find her walking toward him, he paused for a
second, looked at me, then turned back to her and embraced the moment,
literally. When he started to walk away, she grabbed onto his hand and
he didn't mind a bit. They headed for the playland and had a great
time together. Afterwards, when she was asked to get her shoes, he
went to help her find them. I asked the adult looking after her if
she had seen them hugging. She hadn't but told me she is a foster
child. I'm thinking she may have needed a special friend today to
show her a little kindness and she picked the perfect friend. Dayton
never ceases to amaze me with his natural ability to give of himself
and be a friend.

Break up means 'Lots of Laundry'

Few things in life are as exciting as a puddle of dirty water.

Precious Moments

This morning our kids were especially lovey to Dad because the day
previous, he spent several hours playing with them. When Sydney heard
Dad say he had to leave for work, she started quietly rushing around
the house finding pens, paper, and other supplies to make something
for daddy to bring to work. It's becoming a morning rutual. She
sometimes will send Dad with stacks of homemade cards and colored
pictures. When Dad was finally walking out the door, I saw Dayton and
Sydney on the couch. Dayton was rubbing her head while she was
watching a movie. She told dad as he walked by that she didn't like
kisses (sensory sensitive child) and Dayton replied, I like kisses,
but what about my hand Sydney, do you like my hand?
I know that having Dayton here is helping Sydney with her sensory
problem because they come in contact with eachother so much when they
play. Sydney doesn't let people rub on her head very often, so seeing
her let Dayton do that was almost a tearful moment.
