Dayton's First Suit

Dayton wanted a Sunday suit soooo bad, and since it was a righteous desire, we could hardly say no. We looked around at a few stores and finally pieced together a suit for him. He was so excited. He put it on, looked in the mirror and said (with a smile) 'I look just like Dad'.

Hi Family and Friends,
Our family has some special news. Dayton won his class Spanish Spelling Bee today making him one of two representatives that will compete at the school level next Friday!!!! He made it TEN rounds and Sydney was close behind. (The last two times the class practiced she had come in second.) This was a huge surprise for three reasons. First, he is in first grade with second graders. Second, he doesn't come from a long line of spectacular spellers on the 'maternal' side of the family. (No offense anyone) And third, every time Sydney and Dayton practiced with each other it nearly ended in a fist fight. (It's tough having your sibling who only weighs one pound difference tell you 'lo siento, (I'm Sorry) its actually spelled...') :)
Unfortunately, it just so happens that the school Spanish Spelling Bee is taking place the same day we planned to skip school and visit cousins in Soldotna. Dayton already said he'd rather see his cousins. Lol
It's going to be a tough decision. :)
We love you all and appreciate having such wonderful family and friends who we can share our special moments with.

Hockey Game with a few extras

We've been lucky with Aces Hockey tickets this year. Third time going for free. This family had a few sick kids and thus, gave us their 5 tickets. so, we brought their kids that weren't sick and had a great time. All of our kids, including Daemon, sat patiently trough all 3 hours of it. I feel like we have 'arrived' as parents. :)

Scripture Case, a la carte

Since Sydney's baptism, Dayton has been fixated on having a scripture case. All he has is a Book of Mormon, but, nevertheless, he has been relentless at asking me to make him one, like, every hour for four days now. He even went into my fabric box and found the most boyish fabric he could find and laid it out for me. Even after I ordered him his own with his book reading money, he still wanted me to make him one. So, without wanting to here him ask one more time, it is now 6am, and we have......a scripture case, with Sydney's scripture's in it. :)

Sydney's Baptism

Thursday was a very special day for our family. Sydney was baptized along with 3 other children, and I was privileged to give a talk on baptism. Grandma and Grandpa Davis were able to make it which was very sweet since we hadn't seen them since Daemon was born, 2 1/2 years ago.

My feelings were very tender on this occasion and I'd like to share just a few of the reasons why.

1.) I realized that Sydney is the only girl I'll ever have to get baptized.

2.) Being a mother and making the effort to teach Sydney the gospel has been a lot of hard work, and seeing her choose the right, and enter the waters of baptism rivaled the feelings of my wedding day.

3.) Because it was stake baptisms, I didn't think I would get to participate much, but I was overjoyed when asked to give a talk. Memories of my baptism started surfacing, and I remembered listening to Grandma Roberta give a talk. She asked us a question, and when we all looked shy, she said our dad could whisper the answer in our ear. Dad and I both whispered the word, 'Jesus', to each other. :)
I was also baptized on the same day as my cousin Tessa, and that was very memorable. She found me in the hallway after we dressed, and we walked into the chapel together, hand in hand, to listen to the remainder of the service. I've always treasured that sweet memory.

4.) 2 months previous to Sydney's baptism, I had a desire to start making beautiful invitations to give to friends, classmates, and extended family, but I had a very direct and strong impression to instead, spend my time and effort preparing her for her special day, and to use evening scripture study as a tool to focus on baptism, the meaning of it, and how it will impact her life and future decisions. We did that, and Grandma and Grandpa Davis were our only family to attend, yet, Sydney was spiritually ready, and that was all that mattered. It truly was a very special and memorable day.

Thanks for letting me share our joy. We love you all and are glad to be part of such a wonderful, eternal family, and have so many wonderful friends who've supported us on our journey. :)

A first

We continue to experience fun 'firsts' and today was no exception. I left for moment to change the laundry and when I returned, wa-la, Daemon had done his first puzzle, all by himself.

Sledding

I've decided to start blogging again, although, I don't really think it can be defined as true blogging. It should probably be more like photograph sharing. :) Let me know if you'd like me to take you off the list. Sometimes I get a little over zealous in my 'sharing'. I mostly want to be able to keep grandparents and family members who don't live close, up-to-date on the types of things our family is experiencing, minus the frustrating moments. We'll keep those to ourself for everyone's sake. :)
